Crosby Island Marsh Preserve
New section of the Florida Trail opens to the public
Central & South Florida Trail Program Manager, Kelly Wiener, writes:
On July 17, the FTA attended a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the public opening of Orange County’s Crosby Island Marsh Preserve, a 243-acre property southeast of Orlando. We were joined by Orange County Mayor, Jerry Demings, and Orange County District 4 Commissioner, Maribel Gómez Cordero, who spoke of their commitment to both land conservation and recreational access. Crosby Island Marsh now hosts 1.1 miles of the Florida Trail and is part of our ongoing efforts to close the Central Florida Gap.

“The Florida National Scenic Trail is so much more than just a footpath, it is a network of people and special places. It provides outstanding recreational opportunities, while promoting conservation and connectivity to Florida’s public lands. To ensure that this iconic treasure is available for all generations, we must prepare for its future — and that’s why this 5-year plan is so important.”
– Shawn Thomas, Florida National Scenic Trail Administrator, U.S. Forest Service
