Hontoon Island State Park

Hike at an island in the St. John’s River. When you arrive at the parking area, take the ferry (free) across and meet at Ranger Station There is a Visitor Center/museum on the island. The island has pine flatwoods, palm and oak hammocks, bald cypress swamps and marshes. This hike will be 3.5 miles, leisurely, and include some great history of Florida and the area. Details: 28.9763 -81.3570 Take CR 42 east 42 miles to SR 44, turn left, go ½ mile (over bridge), turn right (on first road after bridge) go to stop sign, turn left on Old New York (4110), and turn right on Hontoon Rd (4125), go 2.4 miles, and turn left onto River Ridge Rd, go 1 mile and turn left into parking lot. Take ferry to island.
