The initial federal partnership established by the Florida Trail Association was with the USDA Forest Service, when the first studies were done to determine whether the Florida Trail merited National Scenic Trail status. Once the Florida Trail was designated as a National Scenic Trail in 1983, the Florida Trail Association began working in close partnership with the USDA Forest Service as the federal manager of the trail, and with a variety of federal agencies that oversee military and public lands throughout the state.
