All along the Florida Trail, you have the opportunity to explore some of Florida's finest natural, historic, and cultural features. You'll pass through lands that once housed large Southern plantations prior to the Civil War, walk along the route that cattle drovers used in the 1800s to move cattle south along the Kissimmee River, skirt a bombing range that Captain Jimmy Doolittle used for a practice run before the atomic bomb was dropped in World War II, and see evidence of turpentine tapping in the many forests along the way.
The Florida Trail winds through or past many small communities in Florida, and you'll learn more about our Gateway Communities here. Geologic features, such as waterfalls, deep sinkholes, natural bridges, rapids, and unusual rock formations are noted, as are areas of special botanical interest.
In a nod to the hard work of our trail crews and trail maintainers, and our partnerships with land managers and the USDA Forest Service, you can also see some of the notable bridges and boardwalks built along the Florida Trail.
