Hot, wet, and dirty: that’s what you’ll get when you join one of our F-Troop volunteer trail crews! For the past forty years, the planning, building, and maintenance of the Florida Trail has been entirely volunteer-driven, led by a network of volunteers working locally to reach a common goal. F-Troop is a way to bring great minds and strong backs together, to learn from each other’s successes and failures, and to do so in a way that everyone takes back a little something more to add to their local chapter.
F-Troop volunteer trail crew projects focus on something that a local chapter can’t handle alone: building a bridge or boardwalk, maintaining a little-used and remote section of trail, or putting a brand new section of trail in place.
All Florida Trail members are welcome, no matter your skill level: on the job training is part of the fun. You can participate for a day, a part of a day, or the entire project. All tools, safety gear, and instructions will be supplied. Camping and meals are free, but you must bring your own camping gear. Meals will be prepared by volunteer cooks at the base camp kitchen, with plenty of snacks and sandwich makings available for your work in the field. A full information packet will be sent to you two weeks prior to the project.
