Long Distance Hiking

If you’ve considered walking the entire 1,100 miles of the Florida Trail from Big Cypress to Pensacola, either in one season or in sections, then you’re a long distance hiker. Welcome! Please read the FAQ for answers to the most frequently asked questions. You may also want to look through journal entries by some of our successful long distance hikers. Long distance hikers planning either a long section hike or thru-hike of the Florida Trail must plan ahead well before they start their hike.

The Long Distance Hikers Committee of the Florida Trail Association represents hikers who section and thru-hike the Florida Trail. The committee meets to provide feedback to the Board of Directors regards the
needs of long distance hikers and opportunities for improvement of various procedures such as how to obtain permits required on certain private and public lands. For more information, contact the committee chair, Randy "Chuck Norris" Anderson at
randyandluanne@hotmail.com.
