GPS Data

Click HERE for a new on-line map of the Florida National Scenic Trail as provided and maintained by the USDA Forest Service. This is the most up to date USDA Forest Service GIS data of Certified Florida National Scenic Trail, to be continuously updated.  Please send any corrections or comments regarding this Forest Service on-line map to FNST@fs.fed.us not to the Florida Trail Association.

The following GPS data files are available for free download in GoogleEarth (kml/kmz) format. GPS users can find free software on the internet to convert from kml/kmz to GPX format or the proprietary format required by their particular GPS unit. Three good programs (among others) are GPSBabel, GPSVisualizer and ExpertGPS.

The Florida Trail Association lost all funding for trail data collection and GPS/GIS in 2011.  Those functions are now the responsibility of the USDA Forest Service.  This data is accurate as of the date of data collection (included in the files) but nothing has been updated since 2011. Hikers are advised to use this data for rough planning purposes only as the trail is constantly changing.  Also some campsites may not be open during hunting seasons or may require permits to use - always contact the local land manager for specific details before hiking, particularly in the fall and winter during general gun hunting. 

This data is intended to be used in conjuction with FTA published maps and Data Book and is provided to the public free of charge "as is". Individuals using this information do so at their own risk.
