Florida Trail Activities in Your Area

Side By Side
Check out our chapter websites and Meetup groups for activities in your area.  Visit the Chapters page, scroll down to the bottom and look for your county.  Click on the chapter for a county to go to its web page.  Florida Trail Association activities include day hikes, backpacking trips, canoeing and kayaking, bicycling, picnics, and campouts.  Day hikes may focus on birding, plant identification, geocaching or historic sites.  Most activities are held locally, but some chapters travel to other parts of the state or out of state for extended trips.  However you like to enjoy the great outdoors, there's a Florida Trail activity for you!

At each work party you should bring a fanny pack or backpack to carry your drink, food, gloves and, if you have some, your favorite loppers.  All work parties will meet just past the Rt 72 guard shack in the parking lot on your left at 08:30 on the Saturday. We typically work until 3:00 or so. The work is not strenuous but keep in mind that we are clearing trail and not just hiking.

We will take a lunch break on the trail and not return to the cars until the day is done. Camping is available on Fri and Sat nights at the FTA Camp by Deer Prairie Slough. There is not electricity or water but we do have a sort of toilet facility. Because of the sand road to the campground it does require a vehicle that can handle it. We will supply transportation for those who need it. If you want to camp you NEED to call me to discuss. (941-374-7171 or martintwo@juno.com) We welcome all campers.

We had a great turn out last year and I thank those folks. Hope to see you again. All work weekends are Fri, Sat and Sun. Fri is set up camp, Sat is the big work day and we typically do not work Sun unless we need to finish a project
