It takes a massive amount of volunteer effort to maintain the Florida Trail and to build new sections of trail as we acquire corridors to protect the footpath: more than 65,000 hours of volunteer time per year, in fact!
Our Section Leaders and Trailmasters are always looking for a helping hand to keep the trail open to the public. Trail Care crews come together for a day or a weekend and go out and take care of a specific job, usually a day hike on a section that needs branches trimmed, weeds mowed, or fallen trees moved out of the way. Sometimes new blazes need to be painted. There are opportunities for all levels of experience. These hikes are not as common during our summer months because of the heat, but beginning in September, frequent Trail Care hikes are held to get the trail ready for our prime hiking season.
Join us in giving back to the trail, as it's a major part of our mission. Help keep the Florida Trail open for your fellow Floridians by showing up for a day of trail care at a location near you! Visit our Activities calendar and type in "care" for opportunities to join upcoming activities.
