 Blountstown is a picturesque little town along the Apalachicola River. A paved greenway connects residents with significant features, from a park on the River to the downtown historic railroad exhibit and on to Sam Atkins Park and the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement, which brings together vintage buildings from towns along the Apalachicola River. Blountstown is located at the intersection of SR 20 and SR 69 in Calhoun County. One hour east is the State Capital, Tallahassee, and one hour south or southwest are the famous white beaches of Bay and Gulf counties. 
 This city was named for John Blount, the distinguished Seminole Indian chief who occupied the reservation just east of the town. In 1880, Blountstown became the County seat of Calhoun County and a courthouse was built near the river. In 1903, another courthouse was constructed in “new” Blountstown. This building was used until 1973 when the new courthouse was constructed. However, the old courthouse has been restored and is listed as a historic Florida landmark. Fascinating residents of Blountstown have included the late Fuller Warren, former Governor of Florida, as well as Everett Yon, a native of Blountstown who was honored at the University of Florida, with the creation of Yon Hall.
http://www.blountstown.org/  Although this section is mostly on public roads, it traverses an area of Florida that is pleasant, semi-remote, but very hospitable, a relief from the wilderness swamplands. Part of the route follows a paved bicycle path through Blountstown.
The trail runs through the middle of Blountstown. Where the trail leaves CR 69, blue blazes lead 2 miles to Neal Landing on the Apalachicola River, with picnic tables. There is a trailhead at the depot with covered picnic tables. Blue blazes lead down the paved greenway to Sam Atkins Park.
