Change? No Effective Date 01/27/2010 Ending Date 3/31/2010 DescriptionSuwannee/Econfina RiversThe Suwannee River Water Management District has issued a flood warning for the Suwannee and Econfina Rivers. Due to recent heavy rains in Georgia the Suwannee and Econfina Rivers are rising and much of the trail will be underwater until river levels recede.
Hikers should check the water level for the White Springs Gauging Station here: http://www.srwmd.state.fl.us/index.aspx?nid=253 or by calling SRWMD at 1-800-226-1066. An automated message is available 24 hours at 386-362-6626, extension 8001. If the water level at White Springs is above 60.0 feet then hikers should divert to roads. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HIKE THE TRAIL AT HIGH WATER LEVELS. Even though the Suwannee may be within its bank, the smaller feeder streams the trail crosses will be flooded and may contain swift water. Aucilla River The Aucilla River at Lamont, GA is over 3 feet above flood stage and falling. Hikers should avoid the Aucilla Sinks area until waters receed. Hiker may use Goose Pasture and Powell Hammock Roads to avoid the area.
Between the Osceola and White Springs (Map 15) hikers should continue to follow Lassie Black Rd to US 41 and US 41 into White Springs. Between White Springs and US 129 (Map 14) hikers may use CR 25 (River Rd) and CR 132. Between US 129 and Suwannee River State Park (Maps 14 & 13) hikers may use SR 132 and CR 249. Between Suwannee River State Park and Winquepin St (Map 13) hikers may use River Rd. On Map 12 hikers should use the blue-blazed high water bypass route. |
