Check out our chapter websites and Meetup groups for activities in your area. Visit the Chapters page, scroll down to the bottom and look for your county. Click on the chapter for a county to go to its web page. Florida Trail Association activities include day hikes, backpacking trips, canoeing and kayaking, bicycling, picnics, and campouts. Day hikes may focus on birding, plant identification, geocaching or historic sites. Most activities are held locally, but some chapters travel to other parts of the state or out of state for extended trips. However you like to enjoy the great outdoors, there's a Florida Trail activity for you!

FT Ocean to Lake West

Length: 30.3 miles (linear)

When complete, the Ocean to Lake Trail will stretch some 70 miles from Hobe Sound on the Atlantic Ocean to Port Mayaca on Lake Okeechobee, and one permit will be required for the entire trail. Until then, hikers are required to get a permit from each land management agency.

"The Hole in theWall", Corbett WMA Dupuis Reserve and Corbett WMA form the western portion of the Ocean to Lake Trail. Dupuis can also be hiked as a series of loops.

Ocean to Lake West The western end of the trail begins at Port Mayaka, enters J.W Corbett WMA and continues to the Hungaryland Trailhead.

Parking at the western end of the trail is at Port Mayaca. Parking at the the eastern end of this section is at the Hungaryland trailhead near the Youth Camp in Corbett Wildlife Management Area.

Conditions

Dupuis Reserve and Corbett WMA form the western portion of the trail. Dupuis can also be hiked as a series of loops.

Precautions

Dupuis: Camp only in designated sites. Carry plenty of water, and treat any water you get on the reserve. Sign the trail register. Lock your car.

Corbett: Potable water is available at the Everglades Youth Camp. Be sure to carry enough. Boil, filter or treat all ground water. Wear safety orange during general hunting season. Portions of Corbett are frequently under water. Expect to wade.

Restrictions

NOTE: THE OCEAN TO LAKE TRAIL IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT. ONLY THAT TRAIL SHOWN IN ORANGE IS CURRENTLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. HIKERS ARE REQUIRED TO GET A PERMIT FROM EACH LAND MANAGEMENT AGENCY.

Dupuis: Get a camping permit, and consult the bulletin board at the trailhead for current regulations. You must have a permit to camp overnight. The Reserve is closed during scheduled hunts.
Corbett: Hikers must have a Wildlife Management Area permit to use the area, which is available from the county tax agent for a fee. Build campfires in designated areas only.
